The terror in the young women's body language is so evident. It makes me think about how Melba tried to walk and have her posture in an proud stance. The contrast between the soldier's posture and the students is really striking. How could you not be absolutely terrified?
Sheer terror and the desire to survive the next moments until they reach some place of safety. I'm sure they just caught the second girl while she was blinking but it reminds me of those times when you close your eyes to block out everything around you.
I completely agree with Jennifer! I also have to say I had a physical reaction to this photo. My stomach ached for the fear these girls must have felt inside. Yet, I had to stop and think about the determination and bravery they must have had to find in order to earn themselves an education to make this country a better place. I would also be terrified of what would happen if I had to witness any of these men having to use their weapons in front of me. Could I be as brave as these girls?
Here's what I think: Holy crap do those girls look scared. :(

ReplyDeletePure Terror!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what inside of them is allowing them to proceed?

ReplyDeleteThe warrior had not yet completely taken Melba over. I see such sadness in them as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel a sense of history, a turning point. Something bigger than any of the people playing the roles imagine.
